Silver Marker's Medal Awarded to Richard Waller Bates, 1846

Active

Markers were appointed from 1755 to help teach younger children to read each Sunday in their Wards. They wore a silver medal on a blue ribbon from a buttonhole, handed down to the next Marker on leaving CH, when the leaving Marker received a new medal engraved on the rim with their name and date. This is the Marker's Medal awarded in 1846 to Richard Waller Bates (CH 1840-1846). Includes a copy of the CH Heritage Series booklet 'Badges, Prizes and Tokens'. Proceeds shared equally between Christ's Hospital and the CH Museum.
